FIBRE CRAFT
During this one day course students will learn how to source and process a variety of natural fibres ranging from plant to animal which will be used for strong multifunctional cordage. There are many different techniques for producing quality cordage as well as considerations regarding which material and method is suitable for the desired craft.
The ability to create useable cordage is a fundamental part of Bushcraft and Primitive Skills. It was these techniques and knowledge that enabled our ancestors to produce everything from bow strings to clothing, fishing nets, baskets and shelter.
Students will gain experience in processing different fibres to be made ready for use. Adding in and taking away fibres when making long lengths of cordage will be discussed and demonstrated so that students finish the day with a solid base knowledge of working with fibre.
This is a fantastic course for anyone looking to hone their fibre craft as well as their observational skills when moving through the landscape being able to identify a wide range of trees and plants, all with different strengths and weaknesses regarding their potential for cordage.
Courses run with a maximum of 8 people to ensure sufficient attention and guidance is given to individuals when needed.
